The 2020 Crozes Hermitage Mule Blanche (Domaine) comes from a parcel planted equally to Marsanne and Roussanne and was aged in a mix of concrete eggs (two-thirds) and oak barrels (one-third). It boasts a toasty, leesy nose backed by ripe pear and melon notes, then eases into a generous, medium to full-bodied palate that tightens up and turns citrusy on the finish. It should drink well for several years.

Already bottled, the 2019 Crozes Hermitage Mule Blanche (Domaine) harkens back toward the quality of the superb 2017, with gentle nutty complexities interwoven with crushed stone, spice, melon and pear. Medium to full-bodied, this 50-50 blend of Marsanne and Roussanne from Les Chassis displays beautiful harmony and roundness while remaining long and crisp on the finish.

Sourced from Les Chassis near Domaine de Thalabert, the 2018 Crozes Hermitage Mule Blanche (Domaine) is a 50-50 blend of Marsanne and Roussanne. The nose features crushed stone, toasted marshmallow, pear and melon scents, while the medium to full-bodied palate is round without being expansive and crisp without being edgy. While it's not my favorite of the white wines this vintage, it's still a very solid effort.

A barrel-fermented blend of 50% Marsanne and 50% Roussanne, the 2017 Crozes Hermitage Domaine Mule Blanche is a terrific example of what those varieties can do when they're grown in the right location and vinified with care. Gentle toasted grain scents waft from the glass, along with notes of marshmallow and melon. It's full-bodied and richly textured, with notes of pineapple, crème br?lée and citrus on the long finish.

A 50-50 blend of Marsanne and Roussanne from Chassis, in the heart of the appellation, the 2016 Crozes Hermitage Domaine Mule Blanche is forward and fresh, marked by toasted-grain notes and pineapple fruit. There’s ample weight and concentration in this medium-bodied white, which should live a reasonable length of time for a white Crozes.
