Langhe Nebbiolo is a terrific category of wine that is taking on enormous steam. You get the lovely character of the elegant grape but delivered here with more immediacy and ease of drinking. The Elvio Cogno 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli is the type of bottle you hope to find at your neighborhood trattoria or pizzeria. The wine shows a brilliant ruby hue with fragrant rose, violet and sweet cherry. Production is 15,000 bottles.

This is a beautiful wine that is bright, punchy, tart, lively and fruity all at once. The Elvio Cogno 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli (with 18,000 bottles made) does its best to satisfy your easy-drinking needs. The wine concludes with an elegant dusting of crushed stone. You get terrific value with this vintage of Montegrilli.

This is a terrific Piedmont red to pair with a classic quiche Lorraine. The Elvio Cogno 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli is a delicate and fragile expression with bright accents of chopped mint and medicinal herb that hover over a core of wild cherry and dried raspberry. The wine delivers soft and smooth aromas that define the character of this pretty wine. Dusty tannins and some lingering mineral notes frame a polished finish. A portion of the wine sees whole-cluster fermentation, and winemaking is straightforward in stainless steel. Some 10,000 bottles were released.

The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli is incredibly thin and light, with little mass or density at all. It's very easy drinking and as clean as a whistle. This feather-light red is a treat. It's rare to see this sort of expression of Nebbiolo, and I love it. I'm thinking it might pair well with paper-thin bresaola on bread.

Here is one of the first, advance tastes you can get of Nebbiolo from this hot and dry vintage that created challenging growing conditions for vintners across the Langhe. The team at Elvio Cogno shows a deft hand with the 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli. This is a lean red wine with a beautifully brilliant appearance that is tinged with shades of ruby and polished copper. The bouquet is slightly muted and you don't get that absolute precision that Nebbiolo awards in the cooler years. The mouthfeel shows richness coupled with higher and crisper acidity than I would have expected. Some 10,000 bottles were produced.
