The 2009 Teroldego Rotaliano is a big wine with huge fruit that largely masks much of the wildness that is typically present in this indigenous red grape. There is no shortage of intensity and sheer personality here. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. I have included notes on these new releases from Elisabetta Foradori, even though she is located in Trentino rather than Alto Adige. Foradori continues to push the boundaries when it comes to Teroldego, the main indigenous red variety in Trentino. Biodynamic farming and a non-interventionalist approach to winemaking are at the core of Foradori’s philosophy. Over the last few years Foradori has begun using terra cotta amphoras for a number of her wines. Foradori has also re-introduced two single-vineyard Teroldegos – Sgarzon and Morei – she first made from 1988 to 1999. Both wines emerge from pergola-trained vineyards and are aged in terra cotta amphoras. Readers should do whatever they can to taste these magnificent wines. Importer: Polaner Selections, Mt. The 2008 Teroldego Rotaliano shows terrific purity and focus. The 2008 is a more cool, reserved vintage of this wine, with less exuberance, but plenty of drive and length. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. Elisabetta Foradori continues to set a very high bar in Trentino and the rest of Italy, for that matter. A well-cut red, with refined tannins and flavors of blackberry, currant, damson plum and cocoa powder. A smoke-tinged, minerally undertow drives the wine, lingering on the lightly spiced, grippy finish. Foradori’s 2007 Teroldego Rotaliano is a gorgeous, finessed wine redolent of spiced red fruit, flowers and minerals. This is an especially succulent, rich version of this wine, with no hard edges and impeccable overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012. Unfortunately Elisabetta Foradori’s 2007 Granato was not ready for me to taste in time for this article.
