Drouhin's 2019 C?te de Beaune goes from strength to strength. Consisting substantially of declassified Beaune premiers crus, it bursts from the glass with notes of raspberries, cherries, plums and petals. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with melting tannins and succulent acids, it's an immensely charming red that exemplifies the appeal of the vintage.

Offering up aromas of smoky plums, berries and spices, the 2018 C?te de Beaune is medium-bodied, supple and fleshy, with a generous core of fruit, melting tannins and succulent acids. A cuvée that's complemented by declassified barrels of young-vine Beaune and Beaune 1er Cru, it's a fine value.

Aromas of succulent red cherries, dried flowers and currant leaf introduce Drouhin's 2016 C?te de Beaune, a medium-bodied wine with tangy acids, youthfully chewy tannins and a bright core of fruit that's just a touch compact and firm on the finish. My sense is that the 2015 rendition has a slight edge over the 2016.

Drouhin's 2015 Cote de Beaune opens in the glass to reveal a pretty nose of red berries, pomegranate, licorice and incipient rich soil. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep at the core for its level, and structured by sappy acids and velvety tannins which assert themselves with chalky grip on the finish. Drouhin's C?te de Beaune, which includes barrels of declassified villages and premier cru wine, is sometimes rather precocious in its youth, but the 2015 rendition is unusually tight-knit and will amply reward a few years—or more—in the cellar.

The 2014 C?te de Beaune, not to be confused with the C?te de Beaune Villages, was picked on September 15 and 16, includes some deselected fruit from the Clos des Mouches and was completely destemmed. It has a deep blackberry and raspberry-scented bouquet, a little tight at the moment although I think it will unfurl once in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, chalky tannin. It feels a little chunky at the moment, with a pepperiness developing in the glass. Drink over the next 2-3 years.
