Rated, but no tasting note.Jadot produced a high percentage of successful wines in 1993. There are also disappointments, particularly in the lower appellations which have turned out tough and tannic. There is no Jadot house style, save for rich, well-delineated, structured wines that stand the test of time. As a vintage, 1993 is less consistently excellent than 1990 or 1989.In 1988, all the grand crus were bottled without filtration. The 1991 Nuits St.-Georges-Les Corvees exhibits deep ruby color, fine underlying depth, and Bordeaux-like structure, as well as tough, dry, austere tannins in the finish. Cellar this wine for at least 2-3 years and drink it over the following decade. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY. NOTES ON THE 1992s FROM BARREL: Jadot's 1992 reds appear to be fruitier, more charming and attractive wines than the 1991s. Not as powerful nor as tannic as the 1991s, they display seductive, velvety textures and loads of sweet fruit. They are particularly strong in Jadot's extensive Cote de Beaune portfolio. Moreover, prices for the 1992s will be lower, making them attractive buys.

Jadot has two great premier crus from Nuits St.-Georges. The Nuits St.-Georges-Les Corvees reveals more toasty new oak in its nose, as well as scents of flowers, black fruits, and minerals. It possesses a dense, concentrated, fleshy texture, as well as a phenomenally long, lush finish. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. As I reported last year, this house has made extraordinary 1990 red burgundies. But before you rush out and spend all of your money on many of their superlative 1990s from the Cote de Nuits, do not forget that Jadot produced ten different Beaune premiers crus in 1990 that are, without question, the best Beaunes I have ever tasted. Most received outstanding ratings, but because of space limitations and my desire to report on Burgundy in two parts because of the comprehensiveness of my tastings, they will not be reviewed until issue 84. Shrewd consumers might want to take note that they will retail for prices 40-50% below those of the top grands crus from the Cote de Nuits. Jadot's commitment to higher and higher quality is evidenced by the fact that all of their 1990s, except for the generic Bourgogne, were put in the bottle without filtration. This is particularly admirable in view of the fact that most Burgundy negociants do at least a moderate filtration through either cellulose pads or the diatomaceous earth system (Kisselguhr). Some of the most prominent and successful firms, for example, Jean-Claude Boisset and Bouchard Pere et Fils, do multiple filtrations, including a sterile one prior to bottling. Jadot's refusal to compromise their wines merits accolades. The top wines from Jadot are among the superstars of the vintage. To reiterate, you will read similarly ecstatic reviews for many of the premiers crus from the Cote de Beaune, as well as several of the grands crus in issue 84. Jadot produced wines of uncommon richness in 1990. Given their prices, they belong in any serious Burgundy collector's cellar. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY.

Jadot's Nuits St.-Georges-Clos des Corvees is even fuller than the Les Boudots. Not surprisingly, this is a specialty of the house, as Jadot controls 80% of the production of this Premier Cru vineyard. It is more tannic and structured than Les Boudots, shows excellent ripeness, but needs several years in the bottle to round into form. It should drink well from the mid nineties through the first decade of the next century.
