Notes of sweet berry fruit, orange rind, warm spices, petals and loamy soil introduce the 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots, a medium to full-bodied, lively and textural wine that's seamless and complete. A fixture of the range, this is a success.

The 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots wafts from the glass with notions of raspberries, wild blueberries, licorice, rose petals and baking chocolate. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and succulent, with a lively core of fruit and a charming, enveloping profile.

The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots has turned out well, wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of dark berries, baking chocolate, spices and soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and nicely concentrated, having taken on additional depth and dimension with élevage.

The 2014 Pommard 1er Cru les Epenots has a slightly jammy blackberry and mulberry scented bouquet that has ample fruit in the context of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannin and what feels like a higher pH than others that I have tasted. There is a sweetness here that I can see will lend it commercial appeal, however, it does not really convey the essence of what a Pommard should be, let alone from one of its most renowned vineyards.

The 2013 Pommard 1er Cru les Epenots has a fragrant bouquet with redcurrant raspberry preserve scents. The palate is medium-bodied with rather raw tannin on the entry. The acidity is nicely judged with a light, slightly “skeletal” finish. Drink this over the next 4-5 years.
