This is a modern and contemporary expression with lots of oak-driven spice, chocolate, nutmeg and baking spice. The 2012 Taurasi finishes with wild cherry and pressed blackberry, all followed by those savory aromas derived from up to four years aging in barrique and botte grande. Some 20,000 bottles were released.

The 2011 Taurasi is a powerful and determined full-bodied red to pair with grilled or roasted meat dishes. It opens to dark fruit intensity with lots of cinnamon, toast and sweet baking spice. Indeed, the oak is almost too much of a good thing, as it masks much of the primary fruit. This wine undergoes up to four years in oak, including new barrique and cask. Fruit is sourced from 40-year-old vines. Some 20,000 bottles were released.

The 2009 Taurasi is infused with dark chocolate, toasted espresso and spice. The primary fruit is buried within those oak-driven tones. Once it appears, you are treated to thick plum, prune and dried blackberry. Of course, Taurasi is celebrated for the complexity of its bouquet and indeed there are lingering notes of ash, smoke, licorice and pressed rose petal that go a long way in adding intrigue and depth. The wine shows swelling volume in terms of mouthfeel with firm structure at the back.

Dark, beefy and very ripe, displaying jammy blackberry pie and plum sauce flavors woven with fine, silky tannins. A full-bodied, modern wine, turning out sweet herb, ash and mocha notes on the long finish. The estate's 2003 Taurasi is a sumptuous, full-bodied version of Campania's most famous wine. This plump, generous Taurasi is loaded with dark fruit, French oak and sweet spices. With time in the glass the wine's inner perfume emerges, and I sense that with a slightly more subtle use of oak, the wine could very well reach another level. The raw materials certainly seem to be there. For now, this remains a juicy style of Taurasi that is probably best enjoyed on the young side while the fruit remains vibrant.
