Forward and bright, yet the aromas score more points than the hard, tannic palate. A bouquet of baked cherries, licorice and earth is encouraging; the wild-style cherry palate, however, leaves something to be desired. Familia Zuccardi has shown well with the “Q” series of varietally labeled wines. The Merlot’s rich blackberry fruit held its intensity and remained interesting throughout the mouth, accented with a lush creaminess that was supported by the firm tannins.
