The Schwarzbocks’ 2007 Gruner Veltliner Satzen-Furstenberg is scented with mint and sweet clover. Possessed of an underlying broth-like mineral richness; persistently floral; sappy and saline; pungent with herbs, orange zest, and brown spices; it sticks to the gums with remarkable tenacity, admirable clarity, and the merest hint of perfectly-integrated sweetness. This should be at its best over the next 2-3 years, I suspect. Anita and Rudi Schwarzbock are among the numerous rising talents of the huge Weinviertel, farming nearby vineyards in Vienna as well.
