The 2005 Broquel Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 15 months in new French and American oak. It is a deep garnet color with a nose of toasty oak, tobacco, pencil lead, and black currant. This leads to a medium-bodied, structured wine with ample sweet fruit, layers of flavor, and a lengthy finish. It will develop for 2-3 years and provide pleasure through 2015. Broquel is the winery’s mid-range series. This ’05 Cab, shows berry aromas and some herbal essence, followed by flavors of boysenberry, blackberry, plum and coffee. It’s well-oaked and solid, with tannic bite and good texture. A serious and real wine for a good price.——M.S.(12/1/2007)—— 88
