The 2008 Alto de Tormentallana is 100% Prieto Picudo from a single vineyard in the DO of Tierra de Leon. The grapes were biodynamically farmed and the wine was aged in new French and American oak prior to bottling without filtration. Toasty oak with overtones of chocolate are accompanied by aromas of liqueur-like black cherries, an earthy minerality, and violets. Medium-bodied with layered ripe fruit and spices, the wine has excellent volume, grip, and balance. It will evolve for 1-2 years but can be approached now.
