The 2006 Brunus is composed of 60% Carinena, 25% Garnacha, and 15% Syrah. The wine was aged for 8 months in equal quantities of French and American oak, 80% new before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Inky purple-colored, it delivers a lovely perfume of cedar, pencil lead, violets, blueberry, and black cherry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied, plush wine with layers of ripe fruit, enough structure for 2-3 years of further evolution, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Drink it from 2010-2025. Portal del Montsant is a new estate started by Barcelona architect Alfredo Arribas in 2001 with his purchase of the Mas de Portal property. He hired the experienced Ricard Rofes as winemaker.
