All three 1988 Barolos were outstanding examples. It is hard to pick a favorite since they are young and unevolved. The 1988 Barolo-La Serra appears to have the most elegance and forward, sweet fruit, but also less intensity, glycerin, and tannin. If you can afford to, purchase several bottles of each. These immensely impressive wines are the finest I have yet tasted from Roberto Voerzio. Voerzio's innovative blend of Barbera and Nebbiolo, the 1988 Vigna La Serra, is an uncommonly seductive wine, with a wonderful fragrance of red fruits, spices, herbs, and tar. In the mouth, the wine exhibits gorgeous ripeness, a round, generously endowed, supple texture, and a long, rich, concentrated finish. Precocious enough to be drunk now, this wine should easily last for 5-7 years.
