The 1999 St.-Joseph Les Challeys possesses a saturated dark ruby color as well as a complex nose of cherry, raspberry, and mineral aromas. The wine is fresh, with tangy acidity, excellent ripeness on the attack, good follow-through on the mid-palate, and a layered, pure finish. It will drink well for 5-6 years. The least expensive St.-Joseph cuvee is Les Challeys. This is a good commercial example. The significant difference in quality between the outstanding 1999 northern Rhone vintage and the above average yet essentially correct 2000 is dramatically evidenced in Delas's wines.
