Huber's 2021 Alte Reben Sp?tburgunder is based on destemmed grapes from old vines cultivated in different parcels around the village of Malterdigen and includes parcels from the Bienenberg grand cru. Aged in 40% new barriques that might be less delicate than those used for the GGs, this 2021 offers an intense bouquet of ripe dark fruits but also reveals remarkable finesse and purity. The wine is full-bodied, dense, juicy and structured by fine and spicy tannins, and it has good freshness and lingering, stimulating salinity. This is an age-worthy Pinot that sells for 45 euros. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in October 2023.

Tasted for the second time in late December 2016, Huber's 2014 Alte Reben Sp?tburgunder has not really improved since June and offers a deep, pure and toasty bouquet of dark berries and cherries intertwined with chocolate and coffee flavors. Silky textured, finessed and elegant on the palate, with coconut and oaky flavors, this is a rather delicate Pinot with pretty oaky flavors and tannins. The finish is a bit austere and dry and the wines lacks the bright fruit of the entry level wines.

Huber's 2013 Spatburgunder Alte Reben comes from a selection of vines that average 40 years of age and are planted on shell limestone soils, including the crus. The wine displays a deep, spicy, clear and slightly flinty cherry and red berry bouquet, which has remarkable finesse and precision. Medium to full-bodied, juicy, fresh and refined, this is a beautifully elegant and balanced Pinot Noir. There are present yet silky tannins and a long, clear, fresh and aromatic finish. This is an excellent little cru with grip and stimulating authenticity.

Huber's 2012 Sp?tburgunder Alte Reben is a selection from averaging 40 years old vines cultivated on shell limestone soils including the top vineyards of the family domaine. Very delicate, fresh and pure aromas of dark berries along with floral flavors on the nose, this low-yielding Pinot (40 hl/ha) has significantly more expression than the Malterdinger. Beware that this wine also contains downgraded parts of the several Grosses Gew?chs wines. Silky textured, dense and super balanced on the palate this full-bodied and well structured wine develops an impressive intensity in the long and refreshing mineral finish. "It is always a great pleasure to see how the density and intensity of the old German vines in lesser sites match perfectly with the fruity charm of our younger clones from Burgundy,“ says Julian Huber.
