This interesting wine shows an herbal signature on the bouquet, with lovely tones of black olive and rosemary, some salty anchovy paste and delicate crushed stone. The fruit within the 2016 Canneto is rigid and tight, and the wine's tannins do tend to dry out your palate. This vintage remains very nervous and tight at its core.

This is an IGT expression of Aglianico that has been aged in barrique for 18 months. The 2015 Canneto shows a hint of what could be volatile acidity with some pungent cherry and raspberry aromas that emerge first from the bouquet. This results in a bright and immediate quality of fruit that is followed by oak-driven tones of spice and chocolate. This is a thick and syrupy red wine with lots of heat and sunshine locked within. The alcohol is 13.5%, but it feels greater. Some 60,000 bottles were made.

The IGT 2012 Canneto is a pure expression of Aglianico made in a spicier and smokier style. The wine ages in oak for 18 months and those savory notes have penetrated the fleshy and rich nature of the dark fruit on display. Cinnamon, clove and nutmeg appear in noticeable doses. That extra softness is very well suited to the natural astringency of this Southern Italian native variety. Aglianico's tannic structure definitely rears its head on the finish.

The 2006 Aglianico Canneto is a French oak-aged selection from vines ranging from 30 to 40 years of age. It is a sleek, dark offering loaded with dark fruit, spices, leather, licorice and mint. The oak very nearly dominates the wine’s balance. The fruit here is so expressive it seems a shame to mask it. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
