Fragrant aromas of berry fruit, rose petals and cinnamon introduce the 2016 Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy wine with powdery tannins, a juicy core of fruit and a long, almost extravagantly perfumed finish. This would appear to be quite strongly marked by whole cluster fermentation, and it has turned out very well indeed in its distinctive style.

The 2012 Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard comes from 1.5 hectares from one main block located close to the windmill and two satellite blocks further down the slope. It has a deep, slightly rustic, black tea-scented bouquet that is broody but well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with firm structure, quite dry and foursquare, serious and broody with a slight astringency toward the finish. I would have just shortened the maceration a little.
