Pretty aromas of cherries, raspberries and licorice introduce the 2021 Louis, a medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless wine that's lively and succulent. It's a 3.1-hectare estate in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes owned by the family behind the Parisian bistro l'Ami Louis.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Louis comes sailing out of the glass with notions of stewed plums, Black Forest cake and blueberry preserves plus wafts of dried herbs, tobacco and dusty soil. Medium-bodied, the palate is refreshing and juicy, with a pleasant suggestion of chewiness to the texture and an herbal lift on the finish.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Louis bursts from the glass with gorgeous scents of wild blueberries, black cherry compote and blackberry pie, giving way to hints of lilacs, dark chocolate, eucalyptus and mossy tree bark. The concentrated, full-bodied, blockbuster palate (15% alcohol) completely coats the mouth in perfumed black fruits, framed by plush tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long with a minty kick.

The 2017 Louis is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it gives up notes of cedar chest, pencil lead and tilled soil over a core of baked plums and dried mulberries plus wafts of hoisin and spice box. Full-bodied, the palate is firm and chewy with a lively backbone cutting through the dense, muscular black fruits, finishing just a tad firm.

The 2016 Louis has a deep garnet-purple color and features wonderfully pure notions of crushed redcurrants, blackberries and black plum with hints of yeast extract, tapenade and lavender plus a waft of spice cake. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has lovely harmony and depth, with a soft, velvety texture and oodles of freshness, finishing long and lively.
