From vines planted in 1924, the tank-aged 2018 Rasteau Heritage 1924 is a ripe, lusty mouthful of Grenache. Briary raspberries pick up hints of dark chocolate in a wine that's medium to full-bodied, supple and plush but with beautifully balanced acidity on the finish.

A top-flight example of this old-vine Grenache cuvée, the 2017 Rasteau Heritage 1924 combines scents of allspice and cola, raspberries and cherries. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it finishes long and plush, folding in hints of dark chocolate. Opulent and super-ripe, but with a sense of balance and elegance, it should drink well for 5-6 years. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes.

Another cuvée of old-vine Grenache (this one was planted in 1924), the 2016 Rasteau Heritage 1924 exhibits the warmth for which Rasteau is famous. It's full-bodied, creamy and lush, with hints of chocolaty surmaturité creeping into the black cherry and stone fruit flavors. Drink it over the next 5 years for its youthful opulence.

Coming from very old vines around the estate, the 2015 Rasteau Heritage 1924 is another terrific example of this cuvee. Offering jammy black cherries, strawberry jam, peppery herbs and licorice, it’s full-bodied, supple, loaded with charm and has no hard edges. Drink it through 2025.

Coming from tiny yields of 15 hectoliters per hectare and incredibly old vines, the 2014 Rasteau Heritage 1924 is all Grenache that was fermented in stainless steel and aged in concrete tanks. It’s a naked expression of old vine Grenache that offers terrific notes of plums, scorched hers, chocolate and strawberry on the nose. This gives way to a medium to full-bodied, ripe, textured Rasteau that has enough tannic grip to warrant a year or two in the cellar. It should have 10-12 years of overall longevity.
