Another cuvée that has turned out especially well this year is the 2020 Rully Les Villeranges, a medium-bodied, satiny and succulent wine evocative of white flowers, pear, crisp green apple and fresh mint. It's the finest rendition of this bottling that I've tasted.

The 2019 Rully Les Villeranges is attractive, mingling notes of pear and orange oil with nuances of nutmeg, white flowers and fresh bread in an inviting bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, bright and concentrated, it's saline and penetrating, with a nicely defined finish.

Exhibiting aromas of peach, fresh pastry and mandarin, the 2018 Rully Les Villeranges is medium to full-bodied, glossy and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and a giving, open-knit profile.

The 2017 Rully Les Villeranges derives from a parcel on the limit of Mercurey and Rully that was formerly planted to Pinot Noir, and it's vinified half in tank, half in barrel. Offering up aromas of ripe citrus fruit, pastry cream, pear and vanilla pod, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and incisive, with lively acids and a gently oak-inflected finish.

From the Cote Chalonnais, the 1990 Rully-Les Villeranges offers an earthy, spicy nose that is typical of this appellation. It is an elegant, soft wine with excellent concentration and a dried cherry fruit aroma and flavor. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. While most of the attention is focused on Faiveley's extensive premier cru and grand cru offerings from the Cote de Nuits, this firm does a superlative job in the Cote Chalonnais and the Cote de Beaune. The 1990s merit considerable interest, not only for their quality, but also for the price/quality rapport several of them offer.
