Perfumed and silky, Villard's 2017 Cote Rotie la Brocarde epitomizes the elegant side of the appellation and includes as much as 13% Viognier. Subtle tea-like notes accent raspberries and blueberries in a wine that's medium to full-bodied (13.7% alcohol) yet fine and elegant, with terrific length on the finish.

The 2016 Cote Rotie la Brocarde is a dark, savory mix of espresso, black olives and roasted meat. Medium-bodied, it offers surprising freshness considering the flavor profile, with silky tannins and a long, savory finish.

Including a massive 13% of Viognier, the 2012 Cote Rotie La Brocarde is another classic example of the appellation (despite being aged in 100% new oak). Loaded with juicy blackberry, spice, leather, dried pepper, bouquet garni and rendered bacon fat, it flows onto the palate with a medium-bodied, supple texture, superb purity of fruit and a big finish. It will benefit from short term cellaring and evolve gracefully for 15 years or more. Slightly more fresh and lively, with classic Cote Rotie-styled aromas and flavors of saddle leather, violets, bacon fat and sweet red and black fruits, the 2011 Cote Rotie La Brocarde is medium-bodied, pure and elegant, with racy acidity carrying through the finish.
