The 2021 Pingus shows great elegance and is subtle, austere and nuanced. The old vines planted in 1929 have very deep roots, and those vines cushion the effect of the vintage (which is more noticeable in the Flor de Pingus, for example). It's harmonious, precise, clean and pure, with very integrated oak. The tannins are amazing and super fine, which gives the wine a velvety mouthfeel. There should be around 8,200 bottles; and the expectation today is to bottle it around May/June 2023, but things can still happen...

A harmonious, medium- to full-bodied red, with pleasing tension and drive as well as depth to the flavors of ripe black raspberry and black plum fruit, with tea leaf, iron and smoke, white pepper and bay leaf notes. There's a sense of effortless grace to this wine until firm, fine tannins emerge on the chalky finish -- a reminder of its quiet power. I tasted the bottled 2019 Pingus two weeks after bottling. Even at this early stage and after the operation, the wine is super harmonious and elegant. They really outdid themselves here and produced an amazingly fresh, aromatic and harmonious wine in a warm vintage. It's incredibly textured, with refined, very fine-grained and chalky tannins. It's very balanced, and there's no excess of anything; it has 14% alcohol, perfect ripeness and a velvety mouthfeel. It gets more floral with time in the glass, getting nuanced and really interesting. It delivers what the barrel sample promised one year ago, when the wine already surprised me. I think the word that best describes this wine is precision—it's clean, focused, balanced and delineated. Bravo! 7,900 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2021.
