    The world would be a better place if there was more Picolit in it. Rarity is exactly what makes this wine so precious. The 2013 Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit (packaged in a 375-milliliter bottle) pours from the bottle with brilliant golden hues. Thanks to its evident consistency and residual sugar, this dessert wine sits in the glass with importance and confidence. The bouquet releases thick tones of honey, orchard fruit and sugar-glazed almond. However, that sweetness is never sticky or cloying. Instead, the wine is bursting with energy, focus and drive.

    This is one of my favorite Italian dessert wines, but I have not tasted it in a while. It's very nice to be back in front of the 2011 Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit (in a 500-milliliter bottle). This is a gorgeous wine: so delicate, so fresh, so teeming with life and spirit. Aromas of honey, candied orange peel and lightly toasted almond come bursting from the bouquet. It is impossible to compare Picolit to Italy's other sugar-heavy dessert wines. This rare grape makes for a wine that is so much more elegant and tight, and it expertly navigates any cloying or overtly sweet sensations. I just love it.

    The 2008 Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit is the newest edition in a line of dessert wines that I always look forward to tasting, year after year. If you’re a fan of Picolit (a variety that produces excruciatingly low yields because of a rare genetic disorder), this is one of the best bottles available on the market today. The cool vintage adds extra focus and freshness, but this wine is already extremely well developed despite its youth. Thick layers of honey, roasted almond, candied peach, dried fig, cinnamon and Indian spice mingle together to form a bouquet of pleasing complexity. You can count the lasting mouth-feel flavors over many long minutes. This bijoux bottle will surely develop complexity with more years of aging. Drink: 2014-2025. All these wines are imported to the United States with the exception of the Illivio white blend. No surprise, Livio Felluga has produced another knock-out collection of new vintages. The big news is the use of the recently-confirmed Rosazzo appellation on the estate’s top white wines, the Terre Alte and the Abbazia di Rosazzo. Importer: MW Imports, www.mwimportsusa.com

    Beauty and purity emerge from the nose of this highly complex and delicate dessert wine. Aromas include pressed flowers, honey, white peach and a touch of mustiness that adds depth and dimension at the back.
