The 2005 San Giorgio is embedded with some of the heat of the vintage, which comes through especially on the bouquet. Ripe aromas of candied prune and dried currant mingle with mounting tertiary tones of old spice, licorice, tar and cola. San Giorgio is a revolutionary wine that paved the way for a Torgiano wine identity back when it was first made in 1977. Its blending of native and international grapes, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, was unheard of back then. The point has been proven: Almost ten years from the vintage, and the 2005 San Giorgio is still teeming with life within – although, I wouldn’t wait too much longer. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.
