Showing lots of varietal character, the Massolino 2020 Langhe Riesling is luminous and bright with a fresh set of aromas that includes citrus, beeswax, sage leaf and some of the crushed calcareous soils that characterize this vineyard site. Only 5,500 bottles were made.

Closed in a screw-cap bottle, the 2019 Langhe Riesling brings us a fascinating portrait of the grape that is both informal and purely Italian in spirit. It reveals a luminous golden appearance, with light touches of Mediterranean lemon and sun-kissed aromas of orchard fruit and apple. Any pungent notes have been delicately tempered and softened in this pretty expression. In a second wave, you pick up dusty mineral notes and flinty stone.

Closed in a screw cap bottle, the Massolino 2018 Langhe Riesling is a lot of fun. The wine so carefully and accurately reflects the basic identifying traits of this distinctive variety in its primary stage. This Italian Riesling is beautifully redolent of honeycomb, pear, pineapple, flint and petroleum. It's a textbook example with a streamlined mouthfeel and sharp point of freshness. The wine is aged briefly in various vessels, including acacia wood, stainless steel, amphorae and cement. I'd recommend drinking it relatively young.

This the first vintage made of this wine whose fruit comes from the top of a windy hill just outside the Barolo appellation, between Monforte d'Alba and Dogliani. It represents the third year of production of the vines, with three clones of the grape. The 2017 Langhe Riesling is very strong in terms of the variety's true characteristics, with notes of petrol and ash lying beyond the layers of citrusy and tropical fruit. Some 8,000 bottles were made. This is a charismatic and satisfying wine, aged in stainless steel and acacia oak, along with one clay amphora and a tiny element of cement. I'd pair it with a fresh chicken salad with Indian spices.
