To no one's surprise, Muller-Catoir has again produced some stunning wines. Catoir fashions a Gewurztraminer that would even impress the Humbrecht family in Alsace. The 1990 Haardter Herrenletten Gewurztraminer Spatlese Trocken is undoubtedly among the best German Gewurztraminers I have tasted. An exotic nose of cherries, roses, lychee nuts, and spice is followed by an unctuous wine with stunning precision to its explosively rich, dry, full-bodied flavors. It admirably reveals what low yields, unmanipulative winemaking, super vineyards, and dedicated winemakers are all about. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. A Terry Theise Selection, imported by Milton S. Kronheim, Co., Washington, DC.
