Cadenzia is a name coined by the McLaren Vale wineries to describe their blended red wines; Yangarra’s 2006 version is 68% Grenache, 27% Shiraz and 5% Mourvedre. The ripe plumminess verges on pruniness, accented by hints of cola and toasty, vanillin oak. Cadenzia is a term the McLaren Vale producers have agreed to use on their top Grenache-based blends; in this instance it’s 47% Grenache, 41% Shiraz and only 12% Mourvedre. Like Yangarra’s other wines, this one is heavily extracted, with dark flavors of chocolate, cassis and coffee. Imagine strapping an eight-cylinder engine to a basket full of berries and black peppercorns and watching it go: That's what this wine tastes like.
