With respect to the northern red Rhones, Vidal-Fleury generally makes a fine Crozes-Hermitage, but the wine that stood out in my tasting was the 1990 St.-Joseph. A huge, bacon fat, and cassis-scented nose is followed by a wine with superb intensity, wonderful purity, vibrant fruit, medium to full body, and a handsome marriage of power and elegance.
