The 2000 Barbaresco Gallina is from a vineyard which normally gives an elegant wine, but the hot 2000 vintage seems to have filled out the frame. Very ripe and plummy with much chocolate in the nose, its firm tar and wild fennel flavors have plenty of grip and tannic solidity on the finish, and promise very good drinking from 2005 to 2015. Wonderful bright fruit, with hints of minerals and fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a long, long finish. Concentrated and powerful, showing layers and layers of fruit and tannins.
