The Marchesi di Barolo 2017 Barolo del Comune di Barolo shows a classic Barolo profile indeed. However, it is a little heavy on the spice and toast after its 22 months in both small French oak and Slavonian casks. The wood adds ample sweetness to this wine with nutmeg, clove and cinnamon. In the end, it dries it out a bit, especially in a vintage as hot and dry as this one. I'd definitely recommend this for near-term drinking before that fruit fades out of the picture completely. This was a production of about 25,000 bottles.
