The estate’s 2007 Salice Salentino Liante (Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera) possesses an intriguing array of dark red fruit, sweet herbs and licorice in a round, expansive style. Pretty notes of tobacco linger on the long finish. This, too, is an outstanding value. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011. I continue to be deeply impressed with the wines of Castello Monaci. These reds offer tons of varietal character, and the entry-level bottles are among the finest values in Italian wine today.Importer: Frederick Wildman and Sons Ltd, New York, NY; tel. (212) 355-0700
