Cuilleron is a brilliant white wine maker, who has augmented the quality of his reds. The 1999 Cote Rotie Terres Sombres is more internationally-styled than the 1999 Cote Rotie Coteau de Bassenon, largely because of 100% new oak utilized. That component currently dominates the wine's aromatics. An austere finish is also cause for concern. However, this 1999 has plenty of mid-palate richness and density. It should be long-lived, but will it ever fully come together? Anticipated maturity: 2005-2016.Importer: Neal Rosenthal, Select Vineyards, Shekomeko, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990
