The richest, most succulent and dense offering here is the 2002 Syrah. An inky/purple color is accompanied by smoky, blackberry-like characteristics that suggest a monster wine. However, nothing could be further from the truth once it hits the palate. It is a surprisingly elegant, concentrated, impeccably well-balanced effort revealing plenty of black fruits, licorice, and a hint of graphite. In the lush, richly textured and oaky style that seems to becoming typical of Napa Syrah, this wine stands out as an exemplar of the type.
