The 2002 Zinfandel is a blend of 96.6% Zinfandel, 1.5% Syrah, 1% Petit Syrah, and .9% Viognier. I like the idea of Viognier since I think it will uplift the aromatics, and although it is hard to believe that tiny amount could have given this wine a more exotic component to the aromatics, it does display an exuberant, ostentatious nose of red and black fruits intermixed with flowers, frying lard, and a hint of peaches. Lush, ripe, heady, and rich, this hedonistic effort will provide delicious drinking over the next 5-7 years.
