Another wine that's probably the best yet, the 2012 L'Idiot du Village is 82% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah, which saw a small amount of whole cluster, that spent 23 months in neutral French oak, most of which were 225-liter barrels. It has lots of classic Mourvedre leather, ground pepper and meatiness, as well as lots of cedary spice and sweet dark fruit. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and nicely textured, its tannic structure is relatively concealed behind plenty of sweet fruit; nevertheless, this will age gracefully for at least a decade.
