The Fontanafredda 2016 Barolo Fontanafredda Proprietà in Fontanafredda shows some muddled aromas with a lack of clarity and focus. That's too bad, given how extraordinary fruit in this vintage is deemed to be. You do get a good showing of black fruit, earth, tar and licorice. This wine achieves a mild impact in the mouth with soft tannins and a medium finish. Some 1,250 six-bottle cases were released.

Balsamic aromas of juniper, eucalyptus and sage introduce this intense red, which offers a beam of ripe cherry midpalate, swept up in the dusty tannins in the end.
