Coppo is based in Canelli, in the heart of the Moscato zone, and is one of Piedmont's most historic cellars. Today the estate is best known for its Barberas, but in the past the Coppo family also bottled a Barolo, a tradition that has been resumed with the newest addition to the line-up, the 2003 Barolo, which is made from vines in Castiglione Falletto and aged in mid-size casks. It comes across as fairly advanced in its suggestions of tobacco, leather, spices and sweet plums. Although delicate in style, it also has a nice vein of supporting structure underneath. It should be accessible fairly early. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015.Importer: Winebow, Hohokus, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620
