The 2010 Aquilon, from a slightly cooler growing season then either 2009 or 2011, it seems to have a little bit more complexity, elegance and balance than any of the other vintages I tasted within the style of ripe and powerful wines, full-bodied and generously oaked. It takes some time to open up and display aromas of violets and Mediterranean herbs (rosemary, thyme and lavender). It's a bodybuilder of a wine not to be thought of as delicate, however within the context if its style this is the most elegant vintage; as it warms up you also feel the warmth of the generous alcohol. This should be a long-lived wine. They are aiming to make wines that would live 30 years in bottle, and this one might, but there is no need to wait that long! 2,420 bottles produced.

This aromatic red is rich, ripe and racy, with expressive flavors of raspberry, boysenberry, macerated strawberry and toasty vanilla. Thick in texture, with soft, well-integrated tannins and slightly balsamic acidity. Bold, a touch sweet and balanced for pleasure.
