The 1998 El Chaparral, the second vintage of this sensational old vine Grenache (60-100 year old vines), is once again a hedonist's dream. This inexpensive, dark ruby-colored offering is loaded with kirsch, pepper, and spice as well as lusty levels of glycerin. Additionally, it has sufficient underlying acidity to give vibrancy and freshness. Think of this fleshy, meaty Grenache as Spain's answer to France's Gigondas. Two-thousand cases were imported. Drink it over the next 2 years.
