Marchesi di Barolo has turned out a lovely wine in the 2003 Barolo Cannubi. It offers outstanding concentration and depth in its suggestions of sweet roses, raspberries, spices and dark fruit. Made in a plush, accessible style, it will be even better in another few years once the tannins have had a little more time to settle down. It would be nice to see this chronically underachieving estate pursue the level of quality in its other wines of which it is clearly capable. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
