Last Tasted 6/94I am optimistic that Tuscany's 1990 vintage will turn out to be as superb as 1985. The latter year remains my personal favorite among recent Tuscan vintages because of the wonderful opulence and super-richness of fruit obtained by the top producers. The 1985 Ruffino exhibits a luscious, spicy, earthy, black-cherry-scented nose, and sweet, jammy, glycerin-imbued, full-bodied, highly-extracted flavors. There are no rough edges to this supple, concentrated, hedonistic Chianti. It is drinking beautifully and will last for 12-15 more years.
