The 2017 Chardonnay O.F.S. gives up toast, baked apples, quince paste, honey and nuts with floral notes. Medium-bodied, silky and fresh, with good interplay of fruit and savory notions, it finishes long. Well done for this price point. 311 cases were made.

The 2015 Chardonnay O.F.S. reveals notes of freshly shaved ginger, marzipan and pie crust over a core of spiced pears, Golden Delicious apples and honeydew melon. Medium to full-bodied, it features spice-laced apple and pear flavors with a pleasantly oily texture and an invigorating finish. 282 cases produced.

The 2014 Chardonnay O.F.S. gives plenty of warm peaches, ripe apples and ginger notes with hints of buttered toast and marzipan. Medium to full-bodied, it has a good amount of stone fruit and savory flavors on offer in the mouth with invigorating freshness.

The 2012 Chardonnay OFS, meaning “our finest selection,” is not as fine as some of DeLoach’s great classics of the past. However, now that this property is under the control of the Boisset Family Estates, I am sure given what Jean-Charles Boisset has done elsewhere will continue to resurrect and improve the quality at DeLoach. The wine exhibits a light gold color, tropical fruit, white corn and honeysuckle notes, medium body, and good freshness as well as acidity. Drink it over the next year.

The Chardonnay O.F.S. is a cuvee that, in the days of Cecil Deloach, was one of the great Chardonnays of Northern California, and is now being resurrected by Jean-Charles Boisset, who owns this winery. The 2011 Chardonnay O.F.S. possesses more honeyed tropical fruit than its siblings as well as a richer, fuller taste profile.
