The 2022 Art Series Shiraz is excellent. It is lush and persistent, with a sapid mid-palate and layers of spice and textural complexity. Very good. It remains bloody and mineral, characterized by savory tannins, pink peppercorns, nori, gravel and dried herbs, with pomegranate molasses, redcurrant and a hint of goji berry to boot. The tannins and the fruit are as one: the wine isn't encased by tannin, as so many are, rather, it IS tannin, in that the tannin exudes from its very core, like rays of sunshine. Good! Sealed under screw cap. This is due for release in March/April 2024.

The 2021 Art Series Shiraz is fine and fresh. It has raspberry and strawberry, mulberry and blood plum, with very fine powdery tannins. It is not a hefty wine by any means (augmented perhaps by the conditions of the season). Perhaps it doesn't have the fruit weight for long-term aging, yet this makes for lovely "now" drinking. Sealed under screw cap.

The 2020 Art Series Shiraz is complex and dense in the mouth. It has considerably more fruit power and concentration in the mouth than the cool 2021 release tasted alongside. There is red and purple fruits, alongside a skein of shapely savory tannin. It is fully resolved and ductile, very good, almost savory (a very good thing). The fruit for this wine was wholly sourced from the estate Peppy Park vineyard, 17 kilometers south of the main estate vineyard in Boodjidup. The fruit went over a sorting table, followed by a five-day cold soak. There is up to 20% whole bunch in this cuvée (none in 2017 or 2019), and it is composed of 100% WA Clone. The wine was matured for 18 months in 600-liter demi-muids (Rhone and a Bordelais coopers). "Our priority is opening up the canopies to obtain proper solarization of bunches," said Lovett.
