The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino offers softly contoured fruit with blackberry, plum, spice and sweet earth. This organic wine supports medium-rich fruit weight with finely textured density. Those elements, coupled with fresh acidity, suggest that this wine would benefit from a few more years of aging. Even three or four should suffice to soften the tannins yet maintain the pretty freshness of the fruit on hand. It aged in large oak casks for 38 months, and 30,000 bottles were released.

A certified-organic wine, the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of elegance and finesse, and these qualities emerge unobstructed despite the hot and dry vintage. Despite the many challenges of the growing season, this 30,000-bottle release remains faithful to Sangiovese and the purity of the appellation. The fruit shows wild berry, blue flowers and balsam herb. These delicate and carefully measured aromas cede to bright acidity and polished tannins.
