Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2016 Pinot Noir Van Der Kamp Vineyard is scented of violets, chocolate covered cherries and black raspberries with notions of tilled soil and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied and packed with fragrant black and red fruits, it has a solid frame of fine-grained tannins and great freshness, finishing long and layered. 5,880 cases were made.

Coming from a vineyard planted originally in the 1950s, high on Sonoma Mountain, the 2015 Pinot Noir Van der Kamp Vineyard has a seriously earthy, forest floor and black dirt scented nose with a black cherry, licorice and cinnamon stick core. The medium-bodied palate is firm and tightly-knit, with great intensity and a long spicy finish.

The outstanding 2014 Pinot Noir Van Der Kamp Vineyard comes from high on Sonoma Mountain. It is an impressively concentrated Pinot Noir with notes of kirsch liqueur, some underbrush and roasted herbs, loamy soil nuances, and plenty of berry fruit in a medium to full-bodied, lush and voluptuous style,. This is sexy stuff to drink over the next 4-6 years.

Coming from a cool, west-facing plot, the 2012 Pinot Noir Van der Kamp Vineyard is another savory, complex effort that gives up subtle red currants, pipe tobacco, leather and licorice. Beautiful on the palate, with more sweet fruit than the nose would have you believe, it has solid mid-palate concentration, medium-bodied richness and fine tannin on the finish. Drink it over the coming 5-7 years.

Savory herbs, olives, menthol, game, tar and licorice all take shape in the 2011 Pinot Noir Van Der Kamp Vineyard. An unrestrained Pinot, the 2011 is laced with wild animal notes throughout. This is another of the more powerful, angular Pinots in the range, but there is no shortage of personality or intrigue. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016.
