Among the grands crus, there is a massive, highly extracted, superb Clos de Vougeot. Full-bodied, with plenty of glycerin, alcohol, and tannic clout, this backward wine's profound potential will be seen even by neophytes. Do not touch a bottle for at least 6-7 years; it should last for 20.
The wines of this famed domaine, long known for its classic old style burgundies, do indeed improve with cellaring. The Domaine Roumier made some of the finest 1988s and their 1990s range from excellent to outstanding.
