I was knocked out by the 1995 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard. This Arnold Schwarzenegger-like Zinfandel (15.4% alcohol; 1650 cases) screams from the glass with peppery, loamy, black fruit-like scents. On the palate, the wine is huge, with mouthcoating layers of highly-extracted fruit allied with chewy glycerin. This opaque purple-colored wine appears to possess 10-15 years of aging potential. It is one of the great wines of the vintage. Kudos to proprietor Joel Peterson for producing a bevy of Zinfandels that are particularly brilliant in view of the overall quality level that has emerged from this vintage. Tel. (707) 938-1960
