The 2000 Barolo Riserva is made in a full-bodied, fruit-driven style laden with French oak. The wine offers notable density and richness on the palate, with subtle notes of leather, tobacco and licorice that develop in the glass. Although this is undoubtedly a well-made Barolo I am confident the estate can do better given the superb quality of its vineyards. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018. Despite having changed its ownership structure recently there is sadly little reason to hope that Fontanafredda will ever right its ship as the estate is saddled with legacy issues that make it very difficult to compete in today’s environment. This is really bright and fruity, with loads of plum, meat and fresh mushroom aromas. Full-bodied, with soft tannins and a long, rich, decadent finish. Hard not to drink now. Best after 2008. 1,500 cases made, 300 cases imported.??–JS??Region: Italy / Piedmont / Barolo Select to Add
