Tasted at the 60th anniversary tasting at Domaine d’Auvenay. The 1955 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a broody and more introspective bouquet compared to the Ruchottes-Chambertin '55: tertiary, woodland notes with a touch of struck match. The palate is medium-bodied with commendable weight in the mouth. This is a harmonious Mazis-Chambertin, smooth in the mouth with dried herbs, cumin and sage lending complexity to the finish. There is a touch of austerity here that I appreciate, a sense of reserve and authority. Superb.
