The spicy, earthy, berry-scented 2003 Zinfandel Duarte (450 cases; 16.7% alcohol) exhibits aromas of seaweed, particularly the wrap-around sushi called nori. The distinctive bouquet leads to a garrigue, southern Rhone sort of personality, with kirsch and cherry fruit, firm earthiness, and a certain austerity. There is also a monolithic quality to the Duarte Vineyard Zinfandel in 2003. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
